St. Louis Startup Roadshow to Boston Returns

by Sarah Arnosky | Oct 14, 2016

St. Louis’ startup community has seen an explosion of new companies launching and succeeding. St. Louis has an average of 6,500 new businesses created each year in a wide range of industries including health and plant sciences, software technology, financial services, and social entrepreneurship.  St. Louis was recently called by FiveThirtyEight as “the new startup frontier” and the second fastest growing startup city in the country.

The St. Louis startup story is amazing and it’s still in the first few chapters. However, this book needs to be more widely distributed.  In an effort to create further awareness of St. Louis startups that are transforming the way we live, work and play, in addition to connecting the startups to potential customers, partners and investors, Accelerate St. Louis led a delegation of nineteen startups to Boston.

Our Roadshow began with a Launch Party at the Lambert Airport.  In addition to the platters (and platters) of cookies, region’s leaders gave remarks and startups gave pitches live from the gate.  Once in Boston, the delegation explored key services and facilities including MassChallenge, TechStars, CIC, LabCentral, MassRobotics, Roxbury Innovation Center, and Greentown Labs.   In addition to the programming, several of the startups met individually with current and potential partners to grow their companies.  The day wrapped up with a private dinner at Top of the Hub, fifty stories above Boston. A group of alumni from Washington University in St. Louis joined us to learn more about the startups and share their experiences.

The trip could not have been possible without our partnerships with Southwest Airlines, Washington University in St. Louis, Tarlton Corporation, and CIC.  A special shout out to our co-chairs, Dedric Carter, Tracy Hart and Dougan Sherwood for spreading the joy of startups in St. Louis and Boston.

This is the third trip Accelerate St. Louis has led to connect St. Louis’ startup ecosystem with other vibrant regions- San Francisco (2014), New York (2016) and Boston (2016).  Watch for future news stories on the trip from KTVI, KPLR, KMOX, EQ and Crain’s.
