The St. Louis Regional Chamber hosted the Illinois Public Affairs Network meeting on Friday, April 21st at the Doubletree Hotel in Collinsville, Illinois. Senator Paul Schimpf and Madison County Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler spoke to the group about their priorities, and Kevin Riggs concluded the meeting with a legislative update.
Freshman Senator Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo), shared his perspective on advocating for the 58th District, the “Grand Bargain”, and tangible reforms to make Illinois more attractive to job creators. Sen. Schimpf replaced Sen. Dave Luechtefeld of Okawville who had held the seat since 1995.
Madison County Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler presented two areas of focus – clean ethics and making Madison County as business friendly as possible. Recent appointments in Madison County include Doug Hume, County Administrator; Rob Schmidt, Director of Facilities Management; and Todd Fulton, Emergency Management Director (the first African-American to hold this position).
Kevin Riggs, Managing Director at the Denton US LLP, provided the group with a legislative update, including a discussion of the current dynamics in Springfield and the prospects of passing a budget. Senator Paul Schimpf addresses the Illinois Public Affairs Network
