A delegation of over twenty private-sector executives and leaders traveled to Springfield, IL on February 28th as part of the Chamber’s Annual Southwest Illinois Day at the Capitol. The St. Louis Regional Chamber joined with partner organizations and local chambers of commerce to discuss policy goals with Governor Bruce Rauner and leaders in both the Illinois Senate and House of Representatives. In addition to partners from Southwest Illinois, the reception was co-hosted with the Quad Cities Chamber, Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois, and Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce.
The delegation conveyed the partners’ shared policy positions, which are also part of the Regional Chamber’s 2018 Legislative Priorities. These priorities include Metro East Safety and Security, the continued support of Scott Air Force Base, passing a State Budget with Payment of Vendors, passing Worker’s Compensation Reform, and a Fair Internet Sales Tax. These policy priorities continue the Chamber’s advocacy of forward-thinking economic policies that will create jobs and grow the regional St. Louis economy.
In addition to meeting with Governor Rauner, the delegation met with Senate President John Cullerton, Senate Minority Leader Bill Brady, Deputy Secretary of IDOT Omer Osman, as well as legislators from the region and across the state. The conversation centered around the upcoming Gubernatorial election, passage of a balanced budget, and ending legislation that has no chance of passage.
