The St. Louis Regional Chamber commends Mayor Krewson and Aldermanic President Reed for their bold leadership to further investigate the potential benefits to our region and St. Louis Lambert International Airport through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Privatization Pilot Program. We know that our region needs significant investment in infrastructure that creates jobs and connects where people live with centers of employment, education and the broader world. We must explore new ideas and innovations in public-private delivery models and best practices of cost and revenue sharing across government jurisdictions. We can and should be leading the rest of the country.
The FAA’s program will allow St. Louis to identify sources of private capital for airport improvement and development, while ensuring that ownership of this critical public infrastructure resource continues with good public oversight. Other benefits could include greater operating efficiency, improved amenities, and increased capital investment. The pilot program with the FAA will allow us to take a fresh look at how we invest in and utilize this regional asset and we look forward to future conversations.
We owe it to our region to take the next step towards the possibility of more flights, a better airport, and capital to invest in infrastructure.
