Nationally, St. Louis tends to be identified with its icons – Budweiser beer, the Gateway Arch, Cardinal baseball.  But for St. Louisans themselves, it is perhaps the intangibles that matter most.  Their Midwestern culture, their long and proud history, their rootedness in their neighborhoods – all these things and more give St. Louisans a sense of connectedness – a sense of belonging and community – that is difficult to match.
