Illinois Senate Left in the Dust as House Wins 25th Annual Softball Game

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State legislators practiced their pitches and studied their swings in preparation for the 25th annual Illinois House vs. Senate Softball Game that took place on May 17, 2017 at Lincoln Park.

While the rain stayed away, it was “game on” as players braved 50 mph wind gusts and dust clouds that plowed through the park.

The Senate took a four-run lead early in the game, but the House scored an impressive 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back. The game had its fair share of lively moments, including diving catches, two run doubles, and three double plays. Never in the history of the game have the umpires been challenged more than in yesterday’s game.

In the end, the House cinched a 15-7 victory.

The game’s two MVPs were Sen. Dave Syverson and Rep. Jay Hoffman, but Hoffman passed off his trophy to Rep. Chris Welch.

Check out the rest of the game photos on the Chamber’s Flickr page.
