• Southwest Illinois Day at the Capitol Delegation Meets with Governor, Legislators

    Mar 24, 2017
A delegation of private and public sector executives and leaders traveled to Springfield, IL on March 15th as part of Southwest Illinois Day at the Capitol.  The St. Louis Regional Chamber joined with 11 partner organizations and local chambers of commerce to discuss a shared policy agenda with Governor Bruce Rauner and leaders in both the Illinois House of Representatives and Senate.  In addition to the partners from Southwest Illinois, the lunch and reception were co-hosted with the Quad Cities Chamber.

The delegation conveyed the partners’ shared policy priorities, which are a part of the Regional Chamber’s 2017 Agenda for Regional Prosperity.  Policy priorities included improving Metro East safety and security, supporting Scott Air Force Base, passing a state budget and a capital bill, and passing workers’ compensation reform.  These policy priorities continue the Chamber’s advocacy of forward-thinking economic policies that will create jobs and grow the regional St. Louis economy.

In addition to meeting with Governor Rauner, the delegation met with Senate President John Cullerton, Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno, Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House Tim Mapes, as well as legislators from the region and across the state.  Much of the conversation focused on the ongoing budget stalemate and the recent “Grand Bargain” proposed by Senate leadership.

More information on the Chamber’s policy agenda can be found on the blog. You can view additional photos from the day on the Chamber's Flickr page.

  • Illinois Public Affairs Network Addresses Safety and Security in the Region

    Mar 02, 2017

The St. Louis Regional Chamber hosted the Illinois Public Affairs Network meeting on Friday, February 17 at the Doubletree Hotel in Collinsville, Illinois.  Alonzo Byrd, Assistant Vice President, Enterprise Holdings, Inc. addressed the audience about his role and company priorities at Enterprise for 2017. Byrd discussed topics from efforts to stop discriminatory rental car taxes to the sharing economy and how autonomous vehicles impact car rentals.   Enterprise has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive car rental provider.

Lt. Mike Hundelt, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, shared how they use multiple layers of security to ensure that all Metro passengers and operators stay safe. St. Clair County and uniformed police officers patrol Metro property and provide additional security and visibility throughout the system.  Undercover police officers are also used to monitor MetroLink and MetroBus services. Lt. Hundelt informed the group that crime is down in St. Clair County and encouraged members to consider MetroLink when commuting to and from the city.

The IPAN meeting ended with a legislative update by Kevin Riggs, Managing Director of Dentons’ Public Law practice.
